I'm Tanya and the author of TM Pictures and blog. I have been devoted to photography for most of my life. Originally from California, I first started taking pictures for my high school art class with a vintage Nikkormat camera. I learned photography in a traditional manner: in a darkroom, developing film and printing by hand. I took a few more art courses in college and then went on to work at a professional photography lab in Los Angeles. There I learned most about taking pictures, media industry, commercial production, fine art printing and client services. Continuing on, I worked as a photographer's assistant in fashion, weddings and events, both in the studio/office as well as on location, before moving overseas, starting a family and going freelance. That has pretty much been my forever!
I have been living abroad now for some 14 years with my British husband and our three transatlantic kids, calling London, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York our homes over the years. In 2014 we made a move to Switzerland, where you will find me today with my camera starting a new chapter.
I offer photography services in all manner of freelance work: product and branding for small businesses, editorial, lifestyle and travel content for publications and blogs, wedding and event photography, high school portraits and a range of traditional portraiture.
With an artful and editorial approach, I strive to create thoughtful imagery that reflects the natural beauty of the everyday whether it is person, place or product. Having a strong foundation in film photography, I work mostly with natural light and enjoy making pictures in a classical style. I draw immense inspiration from my travels along with the idyllic landscapes of California, where I grew up.
