Wood & White

Wood and White have always been our home palette. I have been mulling over wood for months now and I am really keen to shift the house around and change things up. It's been a long time sitting with our furniture and our rooms- it's high time for a change and an update. I find SO much inspiration in the many home decor magazines, blogs and pinterest that I go dizzy with heart ache. It would be a dream to refurbish our whole place from scratch. But that is a pipe dream and just not practical right now. Firstly, we are merely tenants renting this apartment and there is not a whole lot we can do to change the structure. Secondly, an overhaul in furniture would surely sink us with no ready access to quality mid range shopping or flea market finds. It is exciting news that Crate&Barrel have just opened their first ever store in Asia, right here in Singapore! It's really nice. Unfortunately the prices are pretty inflated from what you would expect back in the States. Sad!

Thankfully over the years we have invested in some mighty solid pieces of classic wood. Our teak bed frame is really cool but it's too dark and I'm so over that style. I want to par it back to it's original grain which is a much lighter and rustic look. In true DIY gusto, I had decided to do the job myself until I realised that our apartment space was not an ideal workshop with limited access to an outside area. So I asked around for the pros to take it away and sand her down. Bummer the quotes were too high. Now I am back to doing it myself, armed with an orbital sander and natural beeswax. I will let you know how it all goes but it might take me awhile to get the project underway. It's a pain in the arse- too hot, no proper workspace and not a lot of cheer from a culture that lacks the DIY spirit! Now is a time when I really miss those wacky DIY shows on tele back in the UK. ;)

Above scenes from around our apartment. I love my new prints from Bodie and Fou and Beauchamping, just need to find the perfect spot to hang them. My daughter and our cat Suki lounging on the teak bed in question.
